Wildflower Planting Cath Cobb Woods Sat 6th April 2024 10.00am-12.00pm
Updated: Jul 4
10 volunteers joined the Park Rangers today to plant around 200 wildflowers in our ancient woodlands, Cath Cobb Woods,
for this month's conservation
event.
We planted a mixture of wildflowers from Celtic Wildflowers, around the pond and in the woodland glade area that we cleared of bramble back in January. We did our best to dig up and remove tough bramble roots from this area too, so that the plants have more space to grow and thrive. One of our volunteers also litter picked at the end of the morning to help keep the woods litter free, thank you.
The weather stayed dry for us and we had visits from bumblebees and butterflies, including Speckled wood and Brimstone, with lots of birdsong throughout the morning.
Thanks to Park Rangers Rhodri and Andrew Wild About Cardiff for today and Emma from LNP. We are all learning lots from your knowledge. Thanks again for everyone's hard work today, we can't wait to see these flowers bloom and support the pollinators and wildlife.
Woodland Glade flowers planted: Red Campion, White Campion, Foxglove, Birds Foot Trefoil, Primrose, Cuckoo Flower and Cowslip.
Pond flowers planted: Purple Loosestrife, Marsh Cinquefoil, Water Figwort and Water Mint.
